Great Hearts Academies are operated as independent public schools under charters from the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools.
As such, Great Hearts is able to provide our families with a top-tier preparatory education in a fully public and tuition-free setting. Active participation, volunteerism, and financial support from our families are vital to our success, and also help our families gain the full benefit of a Great Hearts education.
Each academy has its own charter, but you may apply to multiple schools simultaneously using our Common Application.
For all schools, the OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD for the 2012-13 Academic Year begins on November 1 and extends through November 15, 2011. If, for any grade level, the number of applications exceeds the number of openings, there will be a lottery to determine enrollment and waiting list order. Lotteries will be held by December 1 and you will receive notification of your placement by email. Applications received after November 15th are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, with applicants either being offered enrollment or being placed on a waitlist in the order that the application is submitted.
Please note the following important points about applying to Great Hearts schools:
1. Great Hearts has no admissions standards, but students may be required to do summer school work in order to meet graduation requirements and/or to prepare them for the rigors of the intense academics of the school.
2. Siblings of currently enrolled students are granted priority status.
3. If a family rejects or does not respond to an offer of enrollment, they are removed from the waitlist and must reapply if they wish to enroll in a future year.
4. If a family does not receive an enrollment offer by the end of the year (i.e. they remain on the waitlist), their application will roll over to the next year if and only if they complete any paper work to that end required by the school (exception: see below). Applications that roll over are given priority over new applications.
5. Applications received between August 10th and October 31st for the current academic year do not roll over, and parents will need to fill out an application for the next academic year during the November 1-15 enrollment period.
6. Completion of online applications or acceptance of an offer of enrollment does not constitute actual enrollment. Parents must fill out an enrollment packet in the spring to be enrolled in the school. Failure to submit that enrollment packet by the school's deadline will result in the non-enrollment of the student
7. Great Hearts typically does not fill openings after the 100th day of school.
